Here we have the beautifully illuminated Five-Story Pagoda at night, located in Senso-ji Temple in the Asakusa district of Tokyo, Japan. Built in 646 AD, Senso-ji is the oldest and one of the most important Buddhist temples in Tokyo, and the Five-Story Pagoda is one of its most memorable and photographed structures. In fact it's the most widely visited religious site in the world with over 30 million annual visitors.

Like many of Japan's sacred and culturally significant historical sites, it too has been the victim of nature, fire and war. The temple was destroyed during a bombing raid in World War 2 and was rebuilt in the 1950s. It's reconstruction was viewed as a symbol of peace and rebirth.

A lone cyclist in the foreground demonstrates the integration of modern Japanese community as it lives with appreciation for its storied past. Walking, riding, or driving by ancient structures is just a beautiful way of life in this country.
